professional photographer, stated that he had worked as a photographer in England and the Channel Islands when announcing the opening of his daguerreotype rooms in Gawler Place, Adelaide, on 20 December 1854. Specimens of his work were available for inspection and he was offering 'A variety of Double and Single Lockets for Miniatures’. The gallery was open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. By 1856 Thompson’s photography studio was in Tynte Street, North Adelaide. When listed in a South Australian directory two years later he was working from Franklin Street and referring to himself simply as 'artist’.
