Timothy Morrell was a curator and writer. He was born in 1954 in Melbourne, Victoria and studied art history at the University of Melbourne and the Institute of Fine Arts, New York. From 1988 to 1990 he was Director of the University Art Museum, University of South Australia, Adelaide, from 1992 to 1993, Associate Curator of Paintings and Sculptures, Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide and from 1993 to 1999 was Curator of Contemporary Australian Art at the Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane. He has been a regular contributor to Australian art magazines since 1986, and between 1996 and 2002 he wrote a satirical column for Art Monthly Australia under the pseudonym Gene Autry. Morrell passed away on 14 June 2019.
