Tony Hull, artist and teacher, was born in London in 1949 where he lived for 30 years. In 1979 he moved to Australia and lived in Thirroul NSW. In 2008 he moved to the Bowral on the Southern Highlands of NSW then in 2013 to Kiama on the NSW South Coast. In 1989 he became an Australian citizen. He has an extensive background in art having commenced professional studies in 1974. Between 1980 and 2009 he was employed full-time by TAFE NSW as a teacher of fine arts and head teacher of an art & design department. The University of Wollongong conferred a Doctorate of Creative Arts in 1997.

Tony Hull has been a finalist and exhibitor in the NSW Parliament Plein Art Prize for the last four consecutive years. In 2013 he was a semi-finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize. Hull has won 26 different awards and prizes for his paintings. Some highlights include, the Waverley Art Prize for Works on Paper 2011 and 2005; the Art Visions Prize 2002; the John Copes Prize for Representational Art 2000; and the James Kiwi Prize for Watercolour Painting 1995. His most recent award was Highly Commended in the 2014 Thirroul Seaside Art Prize. His work is held in many private and several corporate/public collections.
