Also known as
Will R. Barnes,
Snr William R. Barnes
Artist (Cartoonist / Illustrator)
Colonial era Melbourne cartoonist, Barnes Snr was a staff artist on 'Melbourne Punch' c.1855-1860 and there is some speculation that either he or his son also worked as a cartoonist on the Queensland publication 'Boomerang'.
cartoonist. A staff artist on Melbourne Punch c.1855-60. Possibly the father of cartoonist, painter, illustrator and theatrical designer William Rodney (Will R.) Barnes.
Unless it was his son, in 1894 Barnes was working as a cartoonist on the Queensland Boomerang while apparently living in Victoria. Will R. Barnes (Snr) may also have been the artist responsible for two watercolours attributed to Tasmanian artist Philip Barnes.
