Born south-west of Lake Mackay, c. 1930, Willy was raised in the bush. It was Charlie Tarawa’s camels that eventually led the family in to Haasts Bluff in the late ’50s. They later moved to Papunya where Willy began painting for Papunya Tula Artists in 1976 and later became one of the senior Pintupi men painters. In the early ’80s he joined the move back to the Pintupi homelands to live with family in Kintore. His country lies to the south west of Kintore – around Kulkuta, Tjukurla, Warrabri, Malka, Yumari, Tjitikulpa and Patjantja.
