The first professional design organisation begins in 1947-48 when design professionals Grant Featherston; fabric designer and design retailer Frances Burke; graphic specialist R. Haughton James; industrial designer Frederick Ward; industrial designer Charles Furey; graphic designer Max Forbes and the designers Selwyn Coffey, Scorgie Anderson, I.M. (Max) Hutchinson, W. Falconer Green and Ron Rosenfeldt met to form the Society.
