Hugh Buhrich b. 1911

Hugh Buhrich is best-known as the architect (with his wife Eva) of some exceptional modern brick and timber houses in Sydney, including two built for the Buhrich family on cliff sites at Castlecrag. Furniture by the designer is also known.

Hugh Buhrich studied architecture at the Technical University, Berlin (TUB) with Hans Poelzig, later moving to Zurich’s Technical University to complete his degree, then to England in 1938, later to Australia in 1939. He joined the Australian army and demobilised in 1945. Although unregistered as an architect until ca.1971, he managed to design a number of houses and interiors.
