Jenny M. Wicks of the Gudang and Yudakan people of North Queensland is painter who described herself in the catalogue for the 2001 exhibition “Gatherings, Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art from Queensland, Australia” as “still searching for the seeds to my heritage” and that her paintings depict “my stories of growing up as an urban Murri in Brisbane, dealing with issues from my identity, racism, politics, religion and significant events our culture faces such as reconciliation, education and health.” Wicks was a finalist in 'The Art of Place: the 5th National Indigenous Heritage Art Award’ in Canberra in the year 2000.
