Born in Iran, Hossein Valamanesh migrated to Australia in 1973. His sculptural and installation-based work, which combines cultural elements from Australia and his native Iran, relates to memory, cultural dislocation, loss, and the progression of time.

Description

Gryphon Gallery, est 1972, part of Melbourne CAE. It had a policy of deliberate diversity, exhibiting & collecting contemporary artists & craftspeople, staff, students, visiting artists.

Gryphon’s Art collection is at Uni of Melb.

The gallery provided a professional exhibition space.

It was a place where staff & students could make contact with developments in the visual arts.

Closed 1991.
