art student, was taught drawing at the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts by Edmund Thomas . F.C. Terry examined Thomas’s drawing class at the end of 1865 and reported that 'Of the few (five in all) pupils I met, Master Anderson stands highest in my estimation and Mallarky next’.
