professional photographer, was listed as a 'Daguerrean artist’ of Melbourne in 1855, moving from 109 Swanston Street to 7 Bourke Street East about the end of the year. In 1857-58 Pentland’s Photographic Gallery, next to the Herald office, advertised: 'Good likenesses or no charge’. Pentland remained at the Bourke Street address until 1860, then disappears.
